A fix for the Mommy blahs!

Yesterday I was fortunate to be invited to a Mom Blogger event held in NYC by my friend Colleen Padilla (Classy Mommy) and Whitney Wingerd (Mommies with Style).  It was my first event as a amateur blogger.  My friends Allison and Kelli (who are new bloggers themselves) went also.  We enjoyed lunch at a Cafe on 7th Ave and some shopping before the event (the first annual Style School).  From tweeting to wine tasting to a children's clothing exchange by Zulily, it was a fun filled day.  We even got a new hairstyle thanks to Remington.  Which gave us a good excuse to continue our day out in NYC with some dinner, dessert and drinks with all our swag in tow!  Which was quite A-mazing I must say...thanks to all the sponsors!  A busy, but definitely much needed fix from the typical day of a Mom!

A fix for boredom...

We try to fit a lot in all summer long.  From the Jersey Shore to water parks to playgrounds to camps, there is so much to do.  So when we had a couple of rainy days in a row, my son wanted to know what to do now???  Take a break from our busy summer and do nothing was what I wanted to say, but for a child a summer is full of memories.  So I decided to try to be crafty, keep the memories going and we tie dyed shirts.  I had bought a tie dying kit by Tulip at Walmart a few months back...not sure what I was thinking because it sure did look messy!  However, it certainly was not.  We laid some plastic on the kitchen table, read the directions and tie dying we were.  It was very easy and I must say not too messy at all!  Of course my 5 year old who wants to do everything himself, wanted to do his own shirt, so I went with the flow and he did.  I must say, I think it turned out pretty good for a five year old!

Easy Update

My husband and I wanted an easy update to the outside of our house.  We realized the lights were victorian, so not our current style.  So off we went to Lowe's and found lights we loved and even better they were on sale.  So for under $100, we added three  new light fixtures to the outside of the house.  It was very easy.  All you need to do is make sure you shut off the electricity to the lights.  Then you remove the old light fixtures by unscrewing the bolts, cutting the wires and carefully disposing of the old fixtures since they have glass.  To install the new ones we used the mount from the old fixture that was already attached to the brick exterior.  Wired the new light (grounded wire to green ground screw, white wire to white and black wire to black).  We always use electrical tape too...safety first!  It took us a matter of an hour and we have a brand new modern look to the outside of our house!  All we need to do next is the light post...that still has the old victorian look.
